California International Salinas Airshow wraps up on Sunday
The California International Airshow in Salinas continues this weekend, and Sunday will be the event’s last day. On Sunday, attendees can enjoy breathtaking performances from airshow pilots as they twist, turn and dive through the sky. “Some of the stuff I do is very dangerous,” said Jon Melby, “The FearBoss,” airshow pilot. “It’s no different than driving on snow. Once you do it a few times, you’ve got it figured out.”Melby said attendees can enjoy up-close views. “You’ll see me doing loops, rolls, old-fashioned barrel rolls,” Melby said. “I’ll do some knife-edge passes to prove that an airplane doesn’t have to have wings to fly. Then we also have the pyrotechnics blowing up stuff right next to me.”There are plenty of planes to get up close to or even walk through. For example, attendees entering through the main gate can walk right into a C-5, the largest plane on display. Plus, Lucha Libre Wrestlers will be putting on fun, entertaining matches all day; it’s their first year at the Salinas Airshow. Overall, the shared appreciation and passion for aviation can be felt at the airshow whether you’re a young kid seeing your first plane up close, an aircrew manning the deck, or a veteran recognizing your old aircraft.
